Wedding Weekend: Congratulations Beth & Gregg

Me, Beth and Steph on a post-ceremony cocktail cruise.
I was part of another fabulous wedding this weekend. Beth & Gregg got hitched in Beth's parents back yard in Wisconsin Rapids. I wish I had pictures of the setup, as it was im-press-ive. I'll try to get my hands on some pictures from Beth. The weather cooperated perfectly and the crowd was superfun...and as you would expect from any event the Ironside family is involved in, the food & drink were top notch.

Better late than never

My Chicago trip was almost a month ago and I forgot to say anything about it. Laura and I concentrated on new Chicago experiences, including:

-Wrigley Field (I'm pretty sure I'd never actually seen it)

-A White Sox game at US Cellular Field. The Twins were in town and slaughtered the Sox as a bonus. The ballpark was less than impressive. Twins planners, take note.

-Wicker Park
-Green Mill....not the chain restaurant, but the legendary jazz club

-Crew, a gay sports bar. Minneapolis, take note. If I can listen to the Rent soundtrack while watching Gopher football, I'd be one happy lady.

-Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House

-Rem Koolhaas's new IIT (think MIT, but for Illinois) Student Center. Koolhaas is best known for the Seattle Public Library, which I've never been to, but if it's anything like this building, I see what the fuss is all about.

Plus, we got to see lots of friends and Todd and Zippy & Oli even let us use their houses. A red letter trip all around.

News to me

Giuliani's wife is a bit sketchy, allegedly. After reading this Vanity Fair article, I'm reminded of Heather Mills-McCartney's shady past and scheming...and we all know how that ended.

Disgusting

This man was my academic advisor. How disturbing.

It's no Cardinal

Today I heard about last night's opening of Buster's on 28th. It's the new project from the people who started the Happy Gnome, which I loved everything about except that it's in St. Paul. So I was really excited to learn that Buster's is not only in Mpls, but in my neighborhood. Will I finally have a neighborhood bar? What if they show Arrested Development at said neighborhood bar like they did at the Happy Gnome? I'd be the happiest girl ever.

PS - I already checked the menu and they have both Newcastle and Bell's Oberon on tap. Plus they have a Jalapeno & Black Bean Dip appetizer. It's pretty much my favorite bar and I haven't even been there yet.

Blocked!

My blog got blocked on my work server shortly after I posted the picture of Bush in Crocs. Coincidence? I say conspiracy.

Just in case I have a rich secret admirer/benefactor who reads my blog, let it be known that I would very much like to be able to afford the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Lovness Estate in Stillwater. At a mere $3.75M, it'd make a great weekend cottage.

What's your sign?

Boys, take note - British psychologists tracked peoples' reaction to certain pick up lines and found a significant disconnect between men and women. You can read the whole article here, but this line pretty much sums it up:
"Despite being deeply unpopular with women, men are unreasonably optimistic about how well their sexually explicit lines will go down."

Help Beth out

Beth needs help compiling a list of Do Not Play songs for her wedding. I've come up with a few common offenders:

The Cha Cha Slide
Cotton Eye Joe
Anything by Wilson Phillips
Anything by Creed/Nickleback/other angry, untalented bands
Patriotic songs
Celebration
The Joker
The Macarena

What else can you think of?

Hardly Presidential footwear...

Crocs? With socks? (Insert your own joke about bad decisions extending to all aspects of his life here.)

You may remember me blogging about wanting to live at the Parker Palm Springs in April. Thanks to Bravo's new show, Welcome to the Parker, I'll at least be able to see it on TV every week, starting July 26. I can make a refreshing adult beverage, sit by my TV, and pretend I'm back in Palm Springs...if the show is actually good, that will be a bonus.

I finally pulled the trigger on a table I found at cb2 this week while visiting Chicago.

Dedication

I saw this car during my morning commute a few weeks ago. I couldn't decide if it was more likely that the driver:
a) is an heir to the SPAM fortune
b) really likes SPAM
c) both

New shoe Monday

I wasn't even planning on going shopping, but I took Zippy to see the MOA before I dropped her off at the airport this afternoon and found some great wedges at Banana Republic. They're not quite as cute in the picture as I feel they are in person, so if you're not impressed I don't blame you.
